Work at Camp Winthers

To apply for a counselor position, applicants must be: 

• Ages 15–19, and 

• In good academic standing at their school 

Applicants who meet these requirements are encouraged to apply when the online form becomes available. 

Camp Winthers is located at 720 Chamberlain Road on Donner Summit, on the shores of Upper Cascade Lake. 

• This is a 24-hour residential role during each camp week. 
• Counselors live in tent cabins with their assigned campers. 
• Counselors are required to attend a mandatory counselor orientations June 24-26 (3 days, 2 nights) 
• Camp runs Monday–Friday, from June 29 to July 24, 2026. 
• Counselors must attend all four camp weeks.

Yes. Transportation is provided for: 

• Orientation (June 24–26) 

• Each camp week, with counselors riding the bus with campers to and from camp 

Counselors return home on Friday afternoons. 

Counselors work with Campers ages 9–13 and supervise activities, meals, evenings, and sleep in tent cabins with campers. Counselors get to help lead and supervise the following activities and programs: 

Special Activities 

• Archery 

• Canoeing & kayaking 

• Paddleboarding 

• Disc golf 

• Bouldering 

• Overnight campout under the stars 

Additional Programs 

• Hiking 

• Arts & crafts 

• Environmental education 

• Sports & games 

• Music, drama, creative programs 

• Evening campfires 

Ideal counselors are: 

• Team oriented 

• Responsible and reliable 

• Patient and empathetic 

• Good communicators 

• Flexible and positive 

• Comfortable supervising youth overnight 

A packing list will be provided. Typical items include outdoor clothing, warm layers, sleeping bag, water bottle, flashlight/headlamp, toiletries, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes.

2. Attend an In-Person Interview 

Interviews take place on a Saturday (TBD) in April at: 
Bella Vista High School, Fair Oaks, CA 

3. Complete Mandatory Onboarding 

Selected applicants attend Onboarding the Saturday following interviews. 
Onboarding includes HR paperwork, background checks, and required forms. 

4. Attend Mandatory Counselor Orientation (June 24–26) 

Transportation is provided.
